What do I need to bring?
a guitar, (preferably with a spare set of strings),
a plectrum - I strongly recommend Dunlop 1.5mm plectrums (opaque
pale purple) as they do not bend and therefore react very precisely to
your picking technique.
an A4 folder or ringbinder
How long are lessons and how often should I have them?
Lessons are for an hour weekly or fortnightly, depending on your
circumstances (time, budget etc).
How often should I practise?
As often as possible - the more you are able to practise the more quickly
you will progress. Generally it is more effective to practise for shorter
periods more often than for one very long session. It is also important
to have a definite aim or focus for each session.
Do I have to be able to read sheet music?
No. Music will be written as tablature or chord box type diagrams.
However, if you would like to learn to read sheet music this is an option.
Can I learn a particular song?
If there are songs you would like to learn then these can be studied and
I can tab them out for you (bring it along on a CD or mp3 player).
Can you advise me on guitar equipment?
Yes. I can offer advice on all aspects of guitar and music, including
choosing a suitable guitar.
Do you charge a cancellation fee?
As teaching is my profession I need 24 hours notice for cancellation
of a lesson or a charge has to be made. In certain circumstances
(e.g. sudden illness) exceptions can be made.
